A book Arctic Heroes looks into the destiny of the Greenland sled dog.
In Greenland, where the melting ice sheet is disrupting the hunter’s 4,000- year old traditional way of life. Global warming is a direct threat to their everyday survival. Greenland sled dogs are essential for their survival and now Greenlandic sled dogs face extension as hunters are forced to adapt to the changing climate and environment.
The book has over 150 images, and through hunters’ personal stories shows the importance of the animal’s roles in the hunter’s lives. The book is filled with Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson also known as RAX (b. 1958) pictures of people, animals, and landscape with a focus on the magnificent relationship between Greenlanders and extreme Arctic Nature.
